I'm back.

Got bumped to first class for the trip home since they 'lost my booking'.

Expect a full travelog with pics and text in about 7 days.

So what have I missed? Was the Melissa Ferrick concert good? How are the new CDs (Sleater, T&S)?

Progress on the basement looks good; it should shape up nicely. I also was greeted by a very large stack of bills which without a doubt exceed my ability to pay them.

[Really should be August 15th]

Okay so we are in Marrakesh, Morocco! I see (thanks Jesse) that the Microsoft rumor is now fact. Nice of the school to wait till I,m out of the country to pull that fast one on us!

Lauren reports that someone stole our only corn! and that the basement construction is now underway.

What else... Oh yes, my blogging software is down probably because of the construction so it will now be hard for me to update so just look for our most recent updates in the comments of this post because it takes too bloody long to edit my blog in vi.

Yesterday we were in Fez and went to this absolutely wild medina were we ate in a hidden palace and got thoroughly lost afterwards but the kids who 'guided' us to the hidden palace eatery got fed and so afterwards they led us to a tannery, a mosque, and lots of other hidden gems in the medina.

In other news I just figure out how to get the keyboard to behave like a normal one!

This morning we woke up early and caught a 9 hour train from Fez to Marrakesh. The public transport here is pretty nice. It has none of the chaos that the Indian system has. Probably the most notable thing to have such an effect on the system here is that you have to have a valid ticket to get onto the train platform or into the bus station and this keeps most everyone out. Of course the downside to this is that I expected an Indian style system and so we didn't bring any food assuming we'd be swamped by vendors eager to ply us with food but that wasn't the case and we near starved to death :). We were also riding in 2nd class because they only have 1st and 2nd and it was very deluxe. Everyone had their own seat, their was a/c (but it wasn't very cold..) and all that.

Marrakesh appears to be in the middle of nowhere and of course we had reservation troubles. You see Nat had emailed them and set everything up but we were going to be a day late so yesterday I called them and told them this so when we got here today they someone thought that we were only going to be here for one day when in fact it was 5! So we pulled out the emails and they conferred and after some time they told us that we would be able to have the room even though they're full for tomorrow night? I guess some other poor sucker got bumped.

While the train/bus system here is much better than India's in many regards the two countries seem to be very similar. The toilets (the squatters really) are freaking Natalie out and the street life is similar.

On Saturday we're going to go one a trek up a 4200m peak. Being quite out of shape I wonder how we'll survive? So if you don't hear from us by Tuesday then panic! :)
