Hopefully this new campus fitness center will give our shitty Goodlife gym a run for it's money and through competition force them to increase and improve their offerings.

The irony of (for profit) gyms is that they're supposed to make you feel fit and all but the whole membership process of initiation fees, upsells, and recruit-your-friends just leaves you feeling downright dirty and scammed.

Photos from August 1st and 2nd Hip Shows in Toronto (next summer, I swear, I'm going to get a camera which will take good pictures at concerts!)

Drove to the Friday show with John who we dropped off in TO and Nick (formerly of Succaland) and then met up with t-jenn on the floor.

Again I missed The Dears' set but we did catch the full Watchmen one. Their set was pretty much identical to Thursday's show (including the Sweet James cover) but they played one more song, Stereo, at the end.

The Hip show was, of course, great. I think Friday's first half was better than Thursday's first half, and that Thursday's second half was better than Friday's second half. Friday's crowd (at least in our area) was more well behaved but I think I'm becoming a fan of non-hometown shows because the fair weather fans who show up in TO waving their flags and getting way too drunk just ruin the night. Best part of the show was that Gord's vocals were turned up much more than the night before and his rants were much more audible (but still barely understandable). While his vocals were better he didn't seem to be as active, though at one point he did fall off one of the speakers, and he was also not sporting a crotch sweat stain like the night before.

Song highlights..

  • A beautiful thing
  • All tore up
  • Something On: At the NYC show he had the lyrics for Something On taped onto the floor and we grabbed them at the end and tonight it certainly looked like he was singing unassisted.

I should have blogged when I got home at 2:30am because I would have remembered much more but it was 2:30am and I am getting so weak in my old age. Just last night we all called it a night at midnight. This was after we went to Philthy's and enjoyed $130 of food for only $16 (the poor girl couldn't figure out coupon our and so originally she told us we owed $0, but we insisted she made a mistake because the food bill for 11 people couldn't possibly be 0 even with six 2 for 1 coupons).
