I'm in Winnipeg and off to the lake tonight.. I flew in on the really early morning flight and spent the day working. Ah the advantages of telecommuting.

I really need to blog more! So much is going untold. Wednesday night we went and saw my favorite band, Tegan and Sara who were opening up for Rufus Wainwright on a sort of spur of the moment, let's hang out with Jonathan, kind of thing. The next day (Thursday) we caught a *FREE* REM concert (their only North American date) at Young and Dundas (video clip (news clip).

Unfortunately we had heard rumors that they were to play on a roof top so we weren't worried about getting there super early. But as it turns out they weren't playing on a roof top and so we were pretty far back. The worst of it was that there was a huge sound booth blocking the entire view of the stage for us and 70% (there was an estimated 20,000. the show is said to have cost $200,000 to put on) of the people out at the show. The reason it was so big was so that reporters could do reports from there and use REM playing on stage as there back drop. I guess all the VIPs were hanging out there. Anyhow, about 20 people standing on the sound thingy was enough so that we only caught glimpses of Michael Stipes. Fortunately though there was a big jumbotron kind of deal broadcasting the show. It also started to rain at which point everyone opened their umbrellas so sound booth or not you weren't able to see the stage; just a sea of bouncing umbrellas.

I think the kicker of the whole thing was that John decided to go to two classes he's going to get A+'s in instead of coming to the concert. And no, skipping class once would not have affected his grade. Oh well. I guess he can catch REM in Japan (i believe their next stop).
