Steve Palina, How to Become an Early Riser (via Kottke):
So if you want to become an early riser (or just exert more control over your sleep patterns), then try this: Go to bed only when you’re too sleepy to stay up, and get up at a fixed time every morning.

Interesting article on someone who wanted to wake up earlier. Right now I go to bed between 12-2am during the week (3-4 on weekends) and wake up between 8 and 9:30am (10-11 on weekends). I'd love to wake up earlier (once it's warm out) to go wakeboarding at 7am so I may soon take this guy's advice.

The New York Times was wrong, $300,000 is the new $100,000.

Tim has a post on synchronized song lyrics in WMP (no we don't support this in MCE). I didn't know you could do this. And it'd be great if there was a plugin that would automatically grab lyrics from a lyrics site and dump them into WMP.

Gretchen has an ode to her dork badge.

I'm quite the opposite when it comes to my badge. It is not clipped to my shirt, pants, or worn around my neck. Instead I flaunt corporate policy and hide it in my wallet only to bring it out when I need to connect to the Internet from home. Keeping it in my wallet means I never forget to bring it to work because I never forget my wallet, cellphone or keys, while I could very likely forget my badge. It also means I never risk being seen in public as a Microsoft geek. It's one thing to geek out on the web and have my blog connected to the fact that I work at Microsoft (inspite of my disclaimer) and quite another to be walking down the street all dressed up in Kenneth Cole with a blue badge stuck somewhere (just kidding, I do not dress up for work). And yes, I often take down my Microsoft parking tag. I would hate for the public to think that Microsoft employees can't afford real cars :).

BBC, What your drink says about you. I drink (Stoli) vodka:
The distinction between vodka and white wine drinkers here is that vodka drinkers represent a younger version of this personality type. They both have an entrepreneurial spirit and like being in charge.

Fashion is important and they like being up to date with modern style. Whereas a red wine drinker might opt for pinstripe, vodka and white wine drinkers favour Giorgio Armani or designer equivalents. They also tend to be opinionated and independent.

For my 'boring or slightly unadventurous' red wine drinkers you might want to check out this article, Vino & Veritas:

Restaurant owners will often price the wine they buy cheapest at wholesale as the second cheapest wine on the menu. Why? Because people generally don't order the cheapest wine and thus often turn to the second cheapest.

Steve disagrees with Scoble that blogging conversations will drive product design. Yeah, letting bloggers design your products would be like developers designing the user experience software. Yikes!

Kevin Schofield responds to Dan Gillmor's rant recent rant about the lack of The Computer Science Shortage:
Bottom line: this is not Microsoft's, or IBM's, or any special interest's unique tale of woe. This is an alarm sounding that the United States is about to throw away a key competitive asset at the time when it is reaping its greatest reward, broadly, across American industry.

Dan, there is a shortage. Talk to anyone directly or indirectly involved in hiring at the big tech firms. You should hear the horror stories my tech friends share amongst ourselves (some are quite entertaining, we really should start an anonymous group blog with them) and sometimes we're not kidding when we joke about 'lowering the bar'.

However, we'll know there is a real shortage when there is more upward pressure on wages and benefits.

Daniel has a MCE Database Query tool and asks: It would be cool if some of the MS bloggers on the media center team would talk about some of the internals of MCE. What would you like to know?
I'm disappointed that Digital Home Canada's Canadian PVR Roundup did not include any mention of Media Center, espcially in the standalone PC category.
 What I work on
Yes, MCE requires a DVD drive
 MCE in a treehouse
Niveus and Magnolia Wine and Cheese
Yesterday afternoon we launched ABC Family in US Online Spotlight.
 First MCE video cast?
Steve's a home theater installer and went a little nuts with Media Center, MCE = Media Center Everywhere (via Sean in email): The TVs don't use Media Center Extenders to access the MCE interface and content.
