UW Daily Bulletin, 'Best overall' in Maclean's rankings:
As well as being #1 in reputation nationally, Waterloo was named number one "comprehensive university" in the country, and also captured "most innovative" in the reputation survey. Rankings were announced yesterday, and the magazine will hit newsstands across Canada today.

Waterloo also captured a number of other firsts. It swept all the reputation categories -- #1 Highest Quality, #1 Leaders of Tomorrow, #1 Most Innovative, and #1 Best Overall -- among comprehensive universities.

Save Canada's Internet From WIPO:
We call upon the Government of Candada to ignore the recommendation of the standing committee on Canadian Heritage to ratify the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT).

Doing so would create a "notice-and-takedown" system which would be a step backward for internet users and ISPs in Candada for the following reasons...

Go, sign it now, because 'notice-and-takedown' means guilty until proven innocent.

For a great explanation of why ratifying the WCT is bad read Cory's post, Save Canada's Internet from WIPO:

If you own a restaurant, you're not responsible for policing your customers to ensure that none of them are carrying stolen bank-loot. If someone burst in and pointed at the guy at the back table and said, "He's wearing my hat!" no one would blame you if you didn't wrestle the hat away from him and give it back to the accuser.

But under notice-and-takedown, this is what we ask of our ISPs.

The Economist, The internet will eventually be wonderful for music buyers, but it is still a threat to today's dominant record labels:
According to an internal study done by one of the majors, between two-thirds and three-quarters of the drop in sales in America had nothing to do with internet piracy.

Billionaire, Mark Cuban, When will the music industry do it right ?:

Of course, the other digital entertainment mediums have seen booming sales over the same period. Games. DVDs. VHS. Even books on tape have grown.

Wired, File-Sharing Thrives Under Radar :

A file-sharing program called BitTorrent has become a behemoth, devouring more than a third of the internet's bandwidth, and Hollywood's copyright cops are taking notice.
