What are the Seattle weeknight hot spots? Ben and I are dieing to know.

Not that I have the energy to go out. Last night (as you can see from my post times) I had a bad case of being exhausted but being unable to sleep (aka midnight inferno) and today was a busy one at work. I'm so exhausted I even bailed on the weblogger get together. Ah well. It's a good thing I have comfy couches.

So I've noticed that Nordstrom's carries Chip and Pepper jeans (that are not cheap). Remember Chip and Pepper tied dyed t-shirts with the bulldogs that were all the rage when you were ten? Well maybe this is only true if you were ten and grew up in Winnipeg. But what's up with their comeback?

The Hip have some new singles out. I'm so behind the times. Via David Akin:
The Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) says that the new single from the Tragically Hip has been a magnet for music pirates.

CRIA says that, over a five-week stretch from March 30 to May 7, there were more than half-a-million unauthorized attempts to download the Hip's "Vaccination Scar."

See this CRIA press release.

Okay so I just tried to go buy this on Puretracks because I'd rather pay $0.99 than fight with p2p networks even though I wouldn't be able to play the resulting download on my iPod (but it would play on my Media Center). Unfortunately Puretracks is for Canadian's only! (Plus they don't like my Firebird browser). Even though this song is available legally online, I was unable to purchase it.

So I loaded up Kazaa and tried five different downloads but they are all spoofs. This leads one to wonder how CRIA is getting that half a million number. Maybe it's only 100,000 attempts because each person tried five, ten, twenty times.

Next I loaded up my new favorite p2p app and had an excellent quality copy of the song in less than five minutes. It'll play on my laptop, iPod, and Media Center. Unfortunately the Hip won't get a dime. Though I could use Musiclink (formerly Fairtunes.com which I orginally founded with John to send money to the Hip for their first widely pirated album Music at Work).

I could rant all night about this, but the short version is that, the Tragically Hip is my favorite band, I want to see them succeed but I think it sucks that a band which is usually so fan friendly and always goes the extra mile with bootlegs and all would sink to the level of spoofing their single. I could understand if they were on a major label but they're not. It must be their new management company.

Email me if you want me to email you a copy of the single. Email CRIA (info@cria.ca) if this annoys you as much as it does me.
