Truth be told I'm blogging less because my social life is jam packed with excitement.

Monday I went to see The Strokes. I thought getting a general admission ticket was a big score but turns out I'm getting old! I got tired of standing forever and tired of all the underage (and overage for that matter) rowdiness. You know those people who push through to the front using every possible excuse, the people who insist on slam dancing when no one else around them is, the maker outters, and on and on.

Now the show was okay but I resolve to only go to GA shows in a big venue only if I really like the band. I wish I could say that I really like The Strokes but truth be told I've never really listened to them. I certainly like what I hear on the radio but I just haven't put the time in; I certainly will, I've just been too occupied to do so.

Tuesday I went to see Ani Difranco. I didn't bother buying a ticket ahead of time and resigned myself to buying a crappy ticket for a cheap price on the street. But instead I lucked into a third row ticket at face value. It's a score like that, that convinces me that it is silly to fight with Ticketmaster when you can get way better goods on the street. So I had a great seat. The opener, Tony Scherr, was okay, nothing special, I've actually seen him before at some benefit show in Toronto. Of course Ani was amazing. Just her and her bassist. All her material was new except for three songs. By new I mean either really new or from her most recent album, which I haven't heard, so it is new to me. Sometimes you get sick of her new stuff and wish she just played the oldies but last night I did not feel that way.

Today I skipped out of work way too early and went sailing on a Choate 27 with a crew of seven. Four of us were new to the boat and there were several inexperienced crew so it was an 'unmitigated disaster' but we didn't break anything and came home alive. The good news is that I'm booked to go out with them again Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

So my life is either work which is very busy or playing. I really need a night off because I'm exhausted :).

So you want more drunken tales?

Nathan sent me a link to: Best of City Search 2003: Best Dive Bars in Seattle:

  • Nite Lite Restaurant
2ND & Virginia St, Seattle, WA
  • Alki Tavern
1321 Harbor Ave SW, Seattle, WA
  • 3 Hattie's Hat
5231 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, WA
I haven't been to any of those three but I have been to the number 5 because it's just a few blocks away.
