Our good friend Nick from Succaland has had his domain stolen.

What can we do?

Another batch of CDs should be going out to some of you EM fans. By request here is a list of closed auctions to see who won what.

There is now only one open auction so if you have suggestions for more CDs that we could put up then drop me a line.

To get a second phone line installed I have to make myself available from 8am to 5pm! Fortunately I work from home but otherwise I don't know how people would be able to do this.

So yesterday was a busy day. After a morning of conference calls just as the construction guys arrive the Time photographer and his assistant show up. This of course caused problems since the room the construction guy was supposed to be working on was the only room suitable for the photo shoot...

  • The photographer went to 161 Erb St East and got some girl out of the shower to answer the door. She told him the cable guy on Saturday made the same mistake
  • The photographer did the shoot before the interview so I had no idea why they were taking pictures
  • The light fixture in the living room had to go because it was in the way
  • My wardrobe wasn't suitable because it didn't go with the props/icons so we went shopping and I bought a new (expensive) outfit. Unfortunately Time didn't pay.
  • The photographer was here for 5 hours and must have taken 100 rolls of film
  • The last person the photographer had shot was Hayden Christensen of Star Wars fame (also in Life as a House) (Hayden lives with his parents in Toronto)
  • The photographer has only had two subjects ever bumped from Time

Pick up the next issue of Time (USA (and hopefully CND)) because rumor has it my photo might be in it.

The University of Waterloo now has a School of CS (check out the lame launch site!).

The new school of CS will have 63 faculty members, 2,175 undergraduate students and 215 grad students.

So remember that whole 'you have a scholarship and can therefore afford our 15%/year tution increase' incident complete with a mass mailing from our president? Here's a choice paragraph:

I would like you to know that we are doing our best to provide student support in the form of scholarships and bursaries. The number of scholarships available varies from faculty to faculty. Faculties with deregulated programs have more scholarships than others. Clearly not all students in deregulated areas can receive scholarships, but many do. For example, engineering has a total of 520 scholarships/awards, while Computer Science has a total 291 scholarships/awards.

So a stunning 87% of those of us in CS don't have a scholarship. And what's more is that those who do probably only have a few hundred dollars; hardly enough to offset the huge increases we're facing.
