Where did you go to university?
The University of Waterloo. I graduated with a Bachelors of Mathematics with a major in Computer Science. I was affiliated with both St.Jerome’s and Conrad Grebel

I grew up on Marchand Road in the Municipality of Richot (just outside of St.Norbert (which is just outside of Winnipeg)). I consider myself to be from ‘Winnipeg’.

What software do you use/recommend for blogging?
I use Radio Userland which publishes to my server. If you are a hacker who has a laptop that is occassionaly offline then get Radio Userland. Otherwise I recommend Moveable Type or TypePad.

Hmm, random. I’ve stumbled upon your blog whilst searching for info about Larry Smith (yep - he’s still teaching!). I also go to UW, knew a Matt Goyer from my high school, work for big tech (when I’m on coop), and have an interest in sailing(thought I don’t actually know how - yet). So this has been a somewhat inspiration (or at the least, procrastinational) 10 minutes, thanks and keep up the good work!

Hello,
I was reading you blog on DVD changers that work with Media Center. I have a Sony XL1, and my changer has stoped working… well completly now. We have had similar issues that I have read about with it not being there or out to lunch. Finally after 6 months, having 3 tecs. out to my home, and sending it in 3 times it worked ok and sayed conected most of the time. I see I can buy one on ebay, because they don’t sell them any more but I am hesitant to sepend any more money this way. I loved it when it worked and would like a system like it. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to do this. The computer works fine, Sony has told me to turn off my auto updates and to never turn them on with the computer. I have never liked this but if that is what it took after 6 months of working on it I was willing to do what ever they said. Any new thoughts would be great as I see the blog stoped in 2006. Where are we today with DVD Changers. I know alot of people are saving their DVDs to their hard drives, as far as I know this is not easy to do?
