We went to grab some wings and watch Entourage tonight only to discover that the Wingdome is ‘closed for renovations’ until sometime in September. How can it take two months to renovate a 500 sq ft place!? Or is this really just the beginning of the end?

I just started playing with delicious and have no idea how to add a new item (I’m using Flock as my browser but it won’t log me in to del.icio.us?). One suggestion I have for them is improve their ‘no item’ message to include a description about how to get started adding items so that I don’t see this message for too long.

I really need to blog more… What holds me back is thinking that each post needs to be well written. Time to throw that rule away and get back to quick and dirty blogging.

So for the July long weekend Kristi and I:

• Saturday: Biked around Bainbridge Island (super fun!)
• Sunday: Drove to Mount St.Helens (which I never really got until seeing it and realizing it used to be a big mountain and now it’s just a big half a mountain) and then ‘The Gorge’, the windsurfing mecca, that we drolled over as young kids and sailing school. We spent the night in Portland. Stop by Vault Martini if you’re looking for great cocktails.
• Monday: Had breakfast Cameo Cafe (pancakes by the yard!) then drove to Cannon Beach (which was really cold, i.e. 60′F compared to 80+’F inland) and eventually drove home to Seattle
• Tuesday: Lounging by the pool/boat and then Fourth of July boating madness on Lake Union (this time we stayed back from the front row and were not showered with firecracker derby).

One day I’ll investigate a way to mirror all my photos to some online webservice, in the meantime here’s just one photo from the weekend:

I recently posted about immigration reform. Kevin Schofield posted about H1B abuse and had this to say about the findings of a recent report:

H1-B visa applications require the employer to list the salary of the position, and to attest that thye intend to pay the prevailing wage. The GAO audited 950,000 applications submitted between 2002 and 2005, and found only 3200 where the listed wage was not the prevailing wage. One third of one percent — hardly widespread abuse.

The Department of Labor has staff who investigate complaints of H1-B abuse. The report has a nice little chart of complaints and violations found each year. In 2005, when 65,000 H1-B visas were given out, there were only 175 complaints and 217 violations. Once again, hardly widespread abuse.

This weekend we rode Suntop (click for photos, maps and stats). Or more accurately, down Suntop. Overall we descended over 4000 vertical feet. Fortunately we were able to ride up 3250 of that in a car (though we did end up climbing around 1800 feet overall).

Next weekend we’re headed to Whistler.
